Taking Care of Our Pocket Watches

The watch has always been a symbol of wealth and prosperity. One can tell a lot by a person by just looking at the watch he/she is wearing.

In the old days, wristwatches were not considered serious timepieces. They were worn only by women and gentlemen wouldn't even consider putting them on their wrist. They only wore pocket watches. But times have changed and fashion has changed with it. Today both women and men wear wristwatches and it doesn't matter if they are chunky or sleek.

Today, only few people keep wearing pocket watches but not because they are old fashioned but simply because they can appreciate the beauty of this type of watch. Since this is an old and delicate timepiece one has to take special care of it. Most of the pocket watches are made out of iron or bronze and you can clean them with a simple, soft cloth.

If you want to go an extra mile while taking care of your watch then you can use metal polish. Don't forget to clean the chain also. If something happens with your watch, then you shouldn't try to fix it yourself but seek professional help. The internal part is very complicated and intricate and you only risk doing more damage. Also, if you want to clean it on the inside you should also ask for some help because of the reasons mentioned above.

Even if some pocket watches are labeled as being water resistant you shouldn't soak it in liquid. The internal mechanisms may not be harmed but the outer casting may be affected. If your watch happens to get wet then try to dry it as fast as possible. Also, pay attention where you store your watch. It should be put in a safe and dry place away from humidity.
